The Mercedes 300 SL (W198) is presented at the New York Auto Show.
This car may well be the one that took sports cars off the racetracks and one of the first Grand Tourer. In1954, indeed, sports cars were naturally only found on racetracks.
Prompted by a request from Max Hoffman, an Austrian-American car dealer, Daimler Benz decided to put this 300 SL into serial production.
It was based on the 300SL racing car (W194), with a few technical and aesthetic changes.
The 300 SL (W198) is of course recognizable by its legendary design and by the “Gullwing” doors that are also found on our scale model.
Our model car is in the grey metallic paint, the best-known one.
